What Is Invisalign?
Invisalign is an orthodontic system that correctly aligns your teeth in 12 months or sooner from the date you start. You will have a series of clear dental aligners custom made to correct the position of your teeth. These aligners are practically invisible, so they will not negatively impact your appearance.
What Is the Invisalign Process?
Invisalign is able to correct your smile’s misalignment. Getting the smile you want is an easy, three-step process.
Step #1 – Your journey toward a better smile starts with a consultation with your dentist at S&G Family Dentistry. You will sit down and discuss where your smile currently is and where you want it to be. From there, a treatment plan will be worked up to help you get the exact smile you are looking for.
Invisalign Preview will let you see how your smile will look after your treatment before you even start. Your dentist will also take dental X-rays and dental impressions, which will be used to make your series of custom dental aligners. Once your aligners are ready, you will move to the next step in your dental alignment journey.
Step #2 – This is where your treatment truly begins. You will receive your dental aligners and begin wearing your first set immediately. You need to wear your aligners for at least 20 hours per day. This gives you four hours to eat meals and do your dental hygiene routine. You can eat what you want – just take your aligners out beforehand. Your dental hygiene doesn’t change – just be sure to clean your aligners during this time as well.
You’ll wear your aligner set for two weeks and then move to the next set in the series. This will be your routine until you reach the end of your aligners. You will come in for us to check on your progress every six weeks. Your dentist will go over how your teeth are progressing and give you more aligners. Once you have reached the end of your aligner series, you will be ready to move to the next stage of the Invisalign process.
Step #3 – You now have your new smile and can show the world what your true smile looks like. Eat the food you want, speak to new and interesting people, and smile with confidence knowing that you now have a fabulous smile.
Benefits of Invisalign
There are three distinct benefits to using Invisalign invisible braces over traditional braces.
Appearance – Traditional braces leave your teeth with metal brackets cemented to the front of them. The impact doesn’t end there, however. In addition to the brackets, there are metal wires that run from bracket to bracket, and these are what exert the force that results in a straighter smile. Invisalign is different. Instead of metal everywhere, all you have are clear plastic dental aligners that straighten your teeth and remain practically invisible to those around you.
Comfort – Those metal brackets and wires with braces not only affect your appearance; they also are not the most comfortable things to have inside your mouth. Your teeth may ache from the forces applied by the wires, and the brackets can cause soreness on the backside of your lips or your cheeks by rubbing against them.
You also run the risk of really hurting your lips if you are hit in the mouth for any reason. Invisalign is a much more comfortable option. The smooth plastic does not irritate your lips, and the gentle forces of the aligners will not leave your teeth in pain. All in all, Invisalign will help you comfortably get the smile you are looking for.
Convenience – So, with braces, you have a smile that is full of metal, lips that are sore from rubbing against them, and now you are required to go back in every two to four weeks to have them adjusted. You also need to avoid certain foods and change the way you brush your teeth to make sure you are getting all around the brackets.
With Invisalign, you only need to see your dentist every six weeks. We will look over your teeth and make sure they are progressing as planned. No adjustments or changes, just a simple checkup. You also don’t have to change anything with your diet or dental hygiene. Eat what you want, when you want, and then brush and floss your teeth the same way you always have afterward.
