If you have pain or discomfort, first off, let me say that if this is an emergency, we're going to see you that day or if not able that day, it will be the next day. That is an absolute in the practice. Then I have to figure out why you're in pain, whether it's that you've decay in a tooth, or if it's your jaw joint that's causing a problem, or if it's that your teeth are out of alignment and we, S&G Family Dentistry, Leawood, KS just need to do some adjusting to fit your teeth together so that you don't have that pain anymore.
If you know you've got a hole in a tooth we're going to try and save the tooth, so we're either going to do a filling or a sedative filling to try to calm the nerve down so that you don't have the ache. If it's gone past that, we can do a root canal. If it's gone past that, we can do an extraction, and if we do an extraction then you're going to want to restore it, and some way to restore it would be to put either an implant or a bridge. You can do a removable ... There are many options, but the best option's always going to be an implant.
Understanding what to do when you experience dental pain is key to keeping your smile safe. Dr. Schopper and everyone here at S&G Family Dentistry are dedicated to helping you keep your great smile for a lifetime, no matter what life throws at you.
Listen to Your Body
Your body talks to you in different ways. When what you are doing is good, it sends signals to your brain that makes you have good feelings. When your body is tired, you will want to go sleep. And when something is wrong with your mouth, your body will manifest it as discomfort or pain. A little pain, perhaps a mild pressure near a tooth, is a reminder that whatever you are feeling is not quite right and you need to get it looked at by our team. Severe pain is your body screaming at you to get your dental problem addressed as quickly as you can. Do not ignore the messages your body is sending. Contact us right away.
What Type of Pain Do You Have?
When it comes to dental pain, there are two types you should be aware of.
- Emergency – If you are experiencing an emergency, the pain will probably be sudden and on the severe end of the spectrum. This includes accidents, such as broken or knocked-out teeth, that risk the life of your tooth. The first thing you need to do is call S&G Family Dentistry to seek emergency dental help. We will walk you through any first aid steps and schedule an appointment for you to see the dentist that same day. Time is not on your side when you have a dental emergency, but we are. Make the call and save your smile today.
- Non-Emergency Care – For pain that is moderate or that has existed for a while, you may simply need to make a dental appointment at S&G Family Dentistry for restorative treatment, such as dental crowns, dental bridges, tooth fillings, dental implants, or a root canal. You will still want to call as soon as possible. We will go over your situation and help determine what level of care you need. Restorative services can be scheduled and done at your earliest convenience, but they may not require an immediate trip to the dentist.
Call our Leawood, KS office today at 913-945-1612 to schedule your appointment. You can use our online form to schedule your appointment if you are not experiencing an emergency, and we will contact you as soon as we can.
