What happens during my checkup?
  1. A licensed dental hygienist will take digital X-rays (plus intraoral pictures if needed) of your teeth to help spot any underlying problems.
  2. The hygienist will gently clean your teeth as well as examine them.
  3. You'll leave our office with that thoroughly clean feeling you can only get at the dentist.
  4. Our hygienist will note any problem areas your dentist needs to examine closer during the initial exam.
  5. One of our experienced dentists will then carefully evaluate the health of your teeth and mouth and take a closer look at any areas of concern.
  6. The dentist will perform an oral cancer screening, airway evaluation, and wellness checks on your TMJ and gums.
  7. We will make any recommendations necessary to keep your smile bright and healthy.
What if I have a dental emergency?

Call S&G Family Dentistry (913) 451-2929 immediately. The less time you wait to schedule an emergency appointment, the greater the chance we have to save your tooth and your smile. When the office is closed, you will be directed to the dentist on call.

Does S&G Family Dentistry accept dental insurance?

We want to make sure you can get the care you need. We work with many of the top dental insurance providers in the industry. Call our office at (913) 451-2929 to find out if we work with your provider.

What if I am looking for a second opinion?

If you want a second opinion, we offer that service. Either fill out our request an appointment form online or call our office today at (913) 451-2929 to schedule your appointment.

What kinds of fillings do you offer?

We only use composite resin fillings that match your natural tooth color.

What dental service is best for my cracked tooth?

Depending on the severity of the crack, you typically are left with two options.

  1. You can elect for a dental veneer if the crack is not too severe
  2. A dental crown is recommended for more severe cracks in teeth as it covers the entire visible tooth, not just the front surface
What kinds of dental crowns do you offer?

We offer crowns made of ceramic, zirconia or gold.

Why is professional tooth whitening better than an over-the-counter whitening kit?

Professional whitening done right in our office or at home is faster, with more effective results. We provide you with custom-fitting teeth trays and professional guidance from our trained staff. You can even take advantage of our teeth whitening for life offer with a one-time $99.00 enrollment fee. We will supply you with a professional whitening solution to take home at your routine cleanings.

Are dental implants better than dentures?

Dental implants are not better or worse than dentures. They are different. Dental implants are replacement tooth roots, and dentures are replacement teeth mounted on a polymer base. Dental implants prevent jawbone deterioration after losing teeth; they can never come out of your mouth like dentures sometimes do. We can provide the best of both worlds by using both dental implants and dentures to replace a whole arch of missing teeth.

What kinds of braces do you offer?

We offer traditional braces, ceramic braces, Invisalign, space maintainers, and other preventive orthodontics when needed.

When should I bring my child in for an orthodontic consultation?

We recommend that kids receive their initial orthodontic evaluation when they are 7. We will look for signs of jaw issues while your child's face is growing and baby teeth are still present. Typically, pediatric patients who need braces start active treatment between ages 9 and 13.

What toothbrush should I use to clean my teeth?

We recommend an electric toothbrush like those from Oral-B or Philips Sonicare. These toothbrushes can better remove more plaque and tartar from your mouth than a manual toothbrush does.
